Built to honor the history of farming and dedicated to the memory of Peter Hanenburg, the Coopersville Farm Museum serves as the anchor in the Historic Downtown area of the city. The 12,000 square-foot facility displays rotating agricultural related exhibits, contrasting old versus new, and showcases the John Deere collection of Ed Hanenburg, the man behind the museum. The interactive museum exhibits will be of interest to all ages bringing history to life. The museum is open all year but hours vary by season.

Admission is free except during special exhibits such as "Quilts and Their Stories" in August & September when it is $3.

Interurban Railway Substation

The Museum Building itself was once a depot and substation for the Interurban Railway.

Car #8 - "Merlin" - an actual interurban car which once ran through Coopersville on the electric Grand Rapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon Railway (1902 - 1928). The car recently underwent exterior restoration and is beside the Museum building. The recent $5,000 Evans Memorial Award for Historical Preservation will allow interior restoration to begin.

Del Shannon Memorial

Erected and dedicated in 1996. Dan Bourgoise, Del's former manager, and Brian Young, President of the Del Shannon Appreciation Society, were present for the dedication.

Click here to check out some cool Del memorabilia, the sale of which benefits the maintenance of the Del Shannon Room at the Museum.

Also, in late 1998, Brian Young posted the Official Del Shannon Web Site. Here, you can join the Fan Club, and check out interesting goings-on in the world of Rock 'n' Roll.

On March 16, 1999, Del was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame! So, those of you who have the shirts and posters from the Memorial dedication have something unique which may become more valuable!
